Hiyori Sakurai (桜井 ひより, Sakurai Hiyori) is an original character of The World God Only Knows, created by the author of the series himself, Tamiki Wakaki. She is student at Maijima High School and a member of the swimming club.

Appearance

Hiyori has neck-length sky-blue short hair that is similar to Ayumi Takahara's hair-style with a pink marble pin on the left side of her head and blue eyes.

She was only shown in her swimming wear but it can be safely assumed that she owns the standard Mai-High uniform.

Etymology

• The name Hiyori, if translated, means "weather".
• Hiyori's surname Sakurai means "cherry blossom" (桜) (sakura) and "well, mine shaft, pit" (井) (i).
  • Sakurai is derived from Sakurai station (桜井駅, Sakurai-eki).
    • Part of the surname Sakura can also mean "blossom" (咲) (saku) and "good, virtuous, respectable" (良) (ra).

• Hiyori's first appearance was in the 2008 issue 38, Weekly Shōnen Sunday omake sugoroku game, Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai -A One Summer Experience.
  • Hiyori made her re-appearance in the Minami Ikoma arc as one of Minami Ikoma's senpai.
